    GRADE 6 READING

     

    Day 1: Have your child make an emergency list for your family. Place one at each phone.


    Day 2: Have your child read a book to a younger person at least one a week (or read to a grandparent).


    Day 3: Have your child list how many sports she can play this summer.


    Day 4: Take your child to a museum or have him read about one in the encyclopedia or over the internet. Which parts does he like best? Have him describe it to you.


    Day 5: Have your child cut out the biggest word she can find in a newspaper. Have her make as many words out of it as possible.



    Day 6: Have your child name all of the planets and check his answer in the encyclopedia.


    Day 7: Have your child write a review of his favorite TV show. Have him compare it with the TV guide.


    Day 8: Have your child list as many ice cream flavors as she can think of.


    Day 9: Can your child make up any new ice creams that might sound interesting?


    Day 10: Have your child make a list of homonyms. Have her put the list on the fridge and have your family add to it. Count the words at the end of the week.


    Day 11: Have your child play a word game; Scrabble, Boggle or Pictionary.


    Day 12: How many compound words can your child find on the front page of a newspaper?


    Day 13: Analogy? Dachsund is to kennel as canary is to ______. Have your child make up 3 more.


    Day 14: How many different meanings can your child find from the word "run".


    Day 15: Have your child draw a diagram of his room and think about ways he could rearrange it.


    Day 16: See day 10. Have your child do the same with acronyms (example NASA).


    Day 17: Have your child define"Pneumatolysis". Think coal and use the dictionary.


    Day 18: Have your child watch an animal or adventure show on PBS. Have him write the staton and say thanks!


    Day 19: Have your child write a postcard while on vacation.


    Day 20: Have your child find school supply sales in the newspaper. Have him compare prices and find the best price for each item.


    Day 21: Have your child list the things that bug her. Compare the list with a friend.


    Day 22: Have your child organize her room and closet for back to school.


    Day 23: Have your child search the Guiness Book of Records for the shortest adult and the word most spoken.


    Day 24: Have your child make a unique bookmarker for a book read this summer.


    Day 25: Have your child look up the rules for badminton. Play the game.


    Day 26: Have your child interview an older person. Have them ask what the person did over the summer when they were young. Write about it.


    Day 27: Have your child name 4 different hats, coats and houses.


    Day 29: Have your child's friend test him on the states. Set a time limit and make spelling count.


    Day 30: Have your child play jeopardy on states and capitals.
